In this webinar we will explore the key characteristics that differentiate between stressful events and traumatic events. This will help us understand the most common trauma reactions including substance misuse, the typical course of recovery from trauma, and the major signs and symptoms of a stress disorder. We will also differentiate between actual trauma treatment and the components of trauma informed care, including the general treatment recommendations for appropriate treatment of patients with trauma exposure and SUD. We will consider the ways to best utilize the information provided in this training to everyday clinical practice, especially as it relates to American Indian/Alaska Native and rural populations.

Objectives:
1. Identify key characteristics of substance use disorders and their relationship with PTSD.
2.Apply components of trauma informed care and treatment recommendations for appropriate treatment of patients with substance use disorder.
3. Employ strategies for utilizing the information provided in this training to everyday clinical practice.

Credits: 1 hour of ACCME, ANCC, AAPA, ASWB, APA
